Back before Nebraska Furniture Mart came to town and Grandscape was only a fever dream, a completely different development was being planned across from 121 - the tallest building in the world.
At the turn of the century a 1,659 foot skyscraper was proposed on an empty 329 acre plot of land. The proposed building would have cost $3 billion to build and stick out like a sore thumb over the low horizon of the Dallas suburb. Luckily the FAA fought back, arguing that any building over 200 feet is a potential danger to low-flying aircraft.
Alas, the tallest building in the world was vanquished. For the next 15 years, that land would become home to shipping facilities until eventually becoming a major shopping center.
